Asia University

Asia University (AU) is a visionary, pioneering, and fast-growing school, and was founded with the goal of establishing a remarkable and comprehensive university with international competitiveness. Karl Jaspers, a German philosopher, believed that an ideal university must have three features- academic teaching, scientific research, and a creative cultural life, which exactly are what we have been pursuing for years since the establishment of the school.
In the past of 16 years, AU has demonstrated excellence in academic performance, and was ranked as the first in many higher education evaluations conducted by the Ministry of Education (MOE). It was not only evaluated as the best among newly-established universities in Taiwan, but also granted honored projects from the MOE, the so-called Program for Promoting Teaching Excellence Universities, for 12 years consecutively. Meanwhile, AU has earned international reputation by several world university rankings. For example, according to the Times Higher Education BRICS & Emerging Economies Rankings 2014, AU was ranked the 53rd among the top 100 universities. Furthermore, AU was evaluated as the 99th in the 100 best universities under 50 years in the world, and the 83th among the top 100 universities in Asia also by the Times Higher Education Ranking.
To improve the quantity and quality of research outputs, AU has established research centers in each college such as the Center for Food Safety, the T-DNA Tagged Rice Service Center, and the Edible and Medicinal Mushrooms Research Center in the College of Medical and Health Science. Also found in AU are the Center for Semantic Biomedical Computing in the College of Information and Electrical Engineering; the Center for Leisure lndustry and Rural Tourism in the College of Management; the Internet Addiction Prevention Center in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences; and the Center for Animation and Game Development in the College of Creative Design.
As a comprehensive university, AU also centers on creating an aesthetic campus and cultural atmosphere. Specifically, AU offers a space for teaching, research, and creation by inviting the world renowned architect, Tadao Ando, to design the Asia Museum of Modern Art in 2007, which was officially opened in 2013. As a legendary landmark in central Taiwan, the museum turns to be a venue for world-class exhibitions and an interacting platform for artists from local and abroad, which becomes a leading role in the cultural and creative industry in Taiwan.
In addition, we encourage students to submit their works to international design competition and invention fairs. For instance, our students have won 11 Best-of-the-Best and 52 RedDot Awards, 3 iF Awards, 2 G-Mark International Design Awards, plus 92 gold, 107 silver and 78 bronze medals, 34 Special Awards, and 1 Semi-grand Prize in famous international design and invention contests.
